Rwizi track Lake Mburo is found inside Lake Mburo National Park, with stunning and amazing panoramic views of the wild jungles of the Park.
The track follows River Rwizi which is another hidden place around Lake Mburo National Park. The river rises from the hills of Buhweju and flows through districts of Isingiro, Ntungamo, Mbarara, Lyatonde and and Rakai before reaching Lake Victoria.
River Rwizi is a historical and oldest river in the Ankole region with very many tributaries, before ending up in Lake Victoria, East Africa’s largest lake. It is one of the main sources of water for farmers within the Ankole region. The river therefore plays a big role in the lives of people living around, especially when it reaches domestic and industrial use. This is mainly for their livestock and farming purposes in the Ankole region.
About Lake Mburo National Park – Rwizi Track
Lake Mburo National Park is the smallest savannah national park in Uganda, located conveniently close to the highway that connects Kampala to five parks in western Uganda. The 370 sqkm national park is an increasingly common stopover on the safari circuit for visitors traveling to western Uganda or for clients who would wish a one-day tour from Kampala. This is because the park is just in a short distance of 253 km from Kampala, so it can easily be accessed to carry out different safari activities.
Lake Mburo is underlain by ancient Precambrian metamorphic rocks, and sculptured landscapes, with rolling hills that date back more than 500 million years. It contains an extensive wetland area that harbors several species of mammals and birds, found nowhere else in Uganda.
You can plan your extension to track mountain gorillas in Uganda by adding 2 nights safari to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to come face to face with these special primates. Uganda is such a large country with lots of tourism potential. Similarly, Rwanda has Volcanoes National Park, which is also home to mountain gorillas in Rwanda and golden monkeys.
