Originally, there was a humble farmhouse, so there was a need to make good use of the animals from the park that used to pay them a visit every day. Zebras, buffaloes, antelopes, and occasionally the odd hyenas usually come nearby for salt-licking. Alas, the idea was born.
With a fully equipped kitchen, traditional huts, and camping grounds for your camping needs, Mpogo Safari Lodge offers the best of both the cultural and modern worlds.
Why the name Mpogo?
Mpogo is a name of a traditionally famous long-horned cow that was a symbol of good luck among the Chwezi people. These are the founders of the Ankole kingdom in Uganda. Despite the fact that the present generation has failed to conserve the Chwezi tradition, coming to Mpogo Safari Lodge will give you a chance to see the only surviving and greatly cherished Mpogo cow.
The lodge has two very private luxurious grass-thatched cottages with two rooms each. There are in-built showers rooms, and toilets, at the topmost of the hill, which gives our clients a very spectacular view of the park.
The safari lodge is designed to make you feel at home in the neighboring wild. This heaven in the midst of the Ugandan wild is surrounded by astonishing views which are visible from every room. From the main dining area, guests can enjoy the view of the nearby wildlife as well as the stunning evening sunsets over Lake Mburo.
